I didn’t know much about Nafplio before I arrived, but it was love at first sight. It’s a place with a laid-back vibe that has history oozing from every corner. Add the stunning scenery and food that will put you in a gluttonous coma, and you have the perfect holiday. Here is why Nafplio should be your next Greek adventure.

This huge 20m-high marble statue stands proudly at the top of Palamidi Fortress, offering visitors unrivalled panoramic views over the city below.

Another popular attraction in Nafplio is the Akronafplia Fortress. This castle dates back to ancient times and was used as a defensive base by the Venetians and the Franks. Just like the Palamidi Castle, the Greek government used it as a political prison between 1936 and 1956.

The best way to get from Athens to Nafplio is by car. It takes approximately two and a half hours to drive from the Athens airport to the coastal city, with most roads being toll-free. Alternatively, you can take a KTEL bus from Athens, which takes around 3 hours.
If you’re looking for another comfortable and convenient option, the KTEL bus service operates from the Piraeus Port to Nafplio. The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, allowing you to relax and soak in the changing landscapes.
