About me
Get to know me and the blogBefore I was a writer, I was an avid reader, captivated by stories of the past. I read about fairy tales, legends and imaginary worlds of Jules Verne and writers like him. I wondered about mythical places like Atlantis and Troy while dreaming of visiting fascinating places like Macchu Picchu and Pompeii. Growing up, I wanted to go on adventures and explore the places I’d read about. And so I did.
My love of travel came about somewhat by accident. After my first year of university, my friend and I decided to go to Paris together. She bailed at the last minute, so I went alone. The rest, as they say, is history.
I spent three glorious weeks in Paris, immersing myself in the city’s rich culture and history. I strolled the streets and bridges, visited countless museums, churches and parks, and let history come alive all around me. My time in Paris sparked my love for travel and my quest for knowledge. Then, I discovered a passion for writing, which led me to start a blog to share my travels.
My passion for reading and travel led me on a path to learn about the past. I got a history degree from the University of Toronto, and thanks to many amazing professors, I now get to use that knowledge to guide my travels and how I write about destinations. I supplemented that education with further studies in communications and economic development. All of these skills and experiences give me a unique view of travel and destination marketing, which tie in nicely with a blog about cultural adventures.
A few years ago, I moved from Toronto, Canada, to a small town in the Italian countryside. I am now moving to Chieti, a town in the Abruzzo region that predates the Romans. I live in a place that suits me quite well, with history, art and dramatic landscapes all around me. If you love Italy, you might want to check out my other blog, AmongstRomans.com.
About Adventure Explore Discover
You might know me from my previous blog, Kasiawrites. Adventure Explore Discover is an evolution of that blog, and the new name better reflects how I feel about travel. I’m happiest when exploring ancient ruins, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, cultural sites and museums. I’m also a self-professed castle, architecture and art lover.
I am also an adventurer at heart, and I love epic landscapes, outdoor adventures and connecting with nature whenever possible. While you will not catch me camping, you will find me zip-lining, snowmobiling on glaciers, hiking and lounging on the beach. I love the mountains just as much as I love the ocean – they both offer different kinds of beauty that appeal to me.
Here, you can read about museums, architecture, UNESCO sites, urban and outdoor adventures, historical tidbits and fun facts. You WILL NOT find anything about the best Instagram spots or fast food recommendations here. The more I travel, the more I appreciate slow travel as it allows you to immerse yourself in other cultures while discovering new places to love. You can also find me most active on Instagram, where I share snapshots of my trips.
My core values
For me, travel is not just about visiting new places or experiencing different cultures but also about making a positive impact on the world. That’s why I have a personal set of values that guide how I travel and write about my adventures. Respect for the environment, community, and local culture is at the core of everything I do. I strive to be a responsible traveller and promote sustainable tourism practices wherever I go.
Additionally, I value inclusivity and strive to create content that is accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their background or experience. These principles give purpose to everything I do and share with my readers. I’m always looking for brands and partners who share these values. I believe in collaborating with like-minded people and organizations to create a positive impact. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire and empower others to travel with purpose, explore the world mindfully, and make their own positive impact wherever they go.
Forge your own path
Don’t just follow blindly what others are doing. Dig deeper, challenge yourself and seek new discoveries that will change the way you see the world.
Live an adventure
The world is an amazing place, and we have a limited amount of time to see it. Never look back with regrets. Make memories that will last a lifetime.
Have an open mind
Be open to new ideas, people and experiences. Travel tends to break down barriers and misconceptions. Embrace it.
Question everything
Don’t always believe everything you read. Don’t let other people’s preconceived notions and opinions influence your view of places and the people who live there.
Travel curiously
Discover the world for yourself. The cultures and civilizations that have come and gone before us. Who were they, and how did they shape our world?
Travel responsibly
Reduce waste and leave places the way you found them. Respect local culture and choose sustainable tour operators. Stand up for wildlife.
